Basic conditions of employment - Normal time & overtime
ID:CVBCEN

Video Overview

Working hours are stipulated in the Basic Conditions of Employment Act so the employee can be protected from burn-out, exhaustion and physical or mental health break downs. It is important that employees enjoy adequate rest periods and that they are not forced to work more hours than is reasonable. A tired, burned out employee may have difficulty doing their job in a safe manner and injuries, unnecessary death or disease could result from such burn-out. This is why the Basic Conditions of Employment Act clearly stipulates working hours as well as overtime hours and sets limits on these. All employers need to adhere to these guidelines and ensure adequate rest periods are taken by each employee and that overtime hours are not exceeded, even if the employee wants to work more hours than they are allowed to as set out in the Act.
