Taxable income of all taxpayers is calculated according to the following general formula: taxable income is equal to gross income less exempt income less deductions add capital gains. If taxable income is negative, this means that the exemptions and deductions exceed the income and capital gains. This is referred to as an assessed loss. In this tutorial we will discuss assessed losses in a nutshell.
