This tutorial deals with the Skills Development Levies or what is known as SDL. There is a need for SDL in South Africa as we are a country known for not investing in our people. We score low on global rankings for human resource development, and our unemployment rate is extremely high.To try and counteract this problem and bring about better balance, the government has instituted the SDL by way of the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998We will take a look at the purpose of the Act, how much the levy is and who it applies to, how portions of the levy can be reclaimed, and who is responsible for the administration of these grants and training.
