In this tutorial, our objective is firstly to illustrate the dispute resolution structure in South Africa, so that you understand where the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), fits into the labour dispute system. We will then focus on the role of the CCMA by clarifying key terminology and by explaining what it is, why it was established, and what its functions are.
