Video Overview

Estate duty is a separate tax levied at a flat rate which is currently 20% on the dutiable estate of a deceased person. The dutiable estate is calculated by taking the property and the deemed property of the deceased estate less any deductions to equal the net estate. The abatement is then subtracted from the net estate to equal the dutiable estate. In this tutorial we will focus on the valuation of certain property for estate duty. This property is the valuation of an usufructuary interest that is inherited by a beneficiary.
